Hotels in London, Ontario

The September 2003 conference in homotopy theory is taking place from the morning of Saturday, Sept 20 until the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept 24. Please book a hotel room soon, as the conference overlaps with homecoming weekend (Sept 19 and 20). You can always cancel your booking later.

The conference will take place at the London Delta Armouries hotel, and we have a block of rooms reserved there under the name "UWO Department of Mathematics". The rate is $139/night for single or double occupancy. Call 1 800 668-9999 or 519 679-6111 to make a booking. The block is now full, but I have one room booked. Contact if you want it.

There are other hotel options as well. We have blocks reserved at the Marriott and the Hilton, which are within a few minutes walk of the Delta Armouries. Most of the other places below are close to campus but further from the conference, and many of them are full on Sept 19-20. See below for prices and contact info; this info changes frequently, so let know of any changes.

We have a block reserved at The Hilton London for Sept 19-25 at a rate of $125 per night. This is an average rate assuming you stay for the homecoming nights (Sept 19 and 20, $189/night) and the other nights (cheaper). You will have to negotiate if you only want to stay part of the time. Mention "UWO Math department" when making your reservation, and book before August 19, when the block will be released. 1-800-210-9336. Parking is $10 extra. The Hilton is adjacent to the Delta Armouries.

We also have a block at The Marriott Residence Inn London for Sept 19-25 for $121 per night. Departure on the 24th is ok as well. These are suites with kitchenettes; see the web page for the other amenities. Mention the "UWO Math Group" with group code "UWO", and book no later than August 19, as the block will be released the next day. The Marriott is one block away from the Delta Armouries. 1-877-477-8483. I don't know if they charge extra for parking.

The Station Park All Suite Hotel is quite nice and is located downtown, near many restaurants and bars. The can be reached at and at 1-800-561-4574 or 519-642-4444. Their address is 242 Pall Mall St, near the corner of Pall Mall and Richmond. To get to the university, take a taxi or the number 6 Richmond bus northbound. The university gate is about 2 km north of the hotel. For the energetic, it is also possible to walk. Ask for the University of Western Ontario external rate, which is around $100 instead of $145 (Canadian). (During homecoming (Sept 19-21), the rate is closer to $200/night, and they are currently sold out for those nights.)

Halina Koch Bed and Breakfast is an inexpensive choice. It is on Epworth Ave, about a five minute walk east of the math department. They charge $45/night for a single room when you are staying for two nights, and $55/night for a double. I don't know what this includes. They can be reached at 519 434-4045.

Doritta Anderson rents rooms just five or ten minutes to the west of campus. $65/night for a room with a private bathroom and $45/night for a room with a shared bathroom. Cheaper rates may be available for longer stays. Her number is 519 472-6083, and she is at 28 Metamora Cres.

The Ambleside Inn is $65-$75/night. It's at the corner of Waterloo and Victoria, about a 15 minute walk south-east of campus. 519 439-2847 or Full on September 20, 2003.

Another alternative is Windermere Manor, which is about a 10 or 15 minute walk to the north west of the math department. It is in a quiet location and costs $96 for a room and $106 for a suite. 1-800-997-4477

For longer stays, look at the UWO housing web pages. In particular, the off-campus section includes temporary accommodations, often by the day or the week.

The London Health Sciences Center (LHSC) has inexpensive residence-style rooms at end of Colborne St south of downtown. They have a bed and a desk, with shared bathrooms, kitchen and lounge, for $11/night. 519 667-6587.
